MBAT Features

BrainGraph

BrainGraph is a flexible, extensible, graph-based data model that integrates, organizes and directly accesses numerous types of data.  It allows simultaneous storage of multiple labeling schemes and study-specific graph traversal schemes.  Each node (structure) and edge (relationship) has a number of predefined, or user-specifiable, descriptive categories permitting the user to navigate through their data in a variety of ways.  The researcher also can add their own links to information in the form of URLs.  Additionally, they can add connections to other web-based databases or add links to image data.  Each node in the BrainGraph is in turn linked to other sources of text-based information.

The BrainGraph editor has been integrated into the MBAT application.  BrainGraph adds colored label nodes that correspond to the label volume and label index.  This makes it easier for the user to identify and navigate the brain structures.  The tree view option provides a clearly organized hierarchical view of brain structures that can be clicked on and viewed in detail.

In the future MBAT will have the ability to open a hierarchy file using the BrainGraph editor.  The BrainGraph editor will allow users to easily create any type of hierarchy.  It also will provide the capacity to add metadata, such as BIRNLex IDs, to hierarchies.
