  • The figure to the above illustrates the Human/Manual interface for adding new iTools resources.
    • The first time you attempt this, you will be asked to complete an account application form. This form will have a check-box that allows you to request an expert editor privilege. Only a small trusted group of expert users will be allowed to add new resources to iTools to avoid spam and inappropriate postings. This will not be a real limitation because of the auto-add/auto-update functionality described below.
    • Second, you must select a place for your new resource description. You can choose either the flat structure or any of the nodes on the Ontology hierarchy.
    • Right-click on the parent node and select "Add Resource". You will be prompted to enter your account information (username/password) and upon successful authentication, you will see a pop-up dialog box that allows you to manually enter all the resource information.
    • Read the Types of Resources section for more on what computational biology resources may be appropriate to enter.
    • Also, provide an appropriate location for your new resource in the NCBC SW Tool Ontology.
  • Machine/Automated ways of updating iTools - these utilize SOAP/XML and WSDL interfaces.
